Our third and last foal was born this month...From Estrella and Deseado CCV... He is a super black colt and we love him! He already has a new mummy to go to at weaning and we are so happy :) We took Embrujo JL to the GBPRE National Championships and had a great time, even if he was a bit naughty in the ring! Its all about learning! It has been an incredibly hot summer this year.. I think all the horses from Spain are loving it!
Its been show time again... This time we managed 2nd in the ridden stallion class at the Iberian Performance Show...This is a fantastic show and I recommend it to anyone with an Iberian horse.
All of our foals are growing well and we are enjoying the long hot summer days :)
We took Embrujo to the festival of the Iberian horse and were absolutely delighted with him.. Lots of rosettes and reserve Champion in hand PRE :)
Happy days.. He is such a good stallion and I am pleased to say that his son Hortelano is climbing up the dressage rankings in Spain again this year. Last year he went to the finals at SICAB and was placed a respectable 7th.
Our second foal of the year was born on the 14th of June. We have named her Lilith SA... her sire is the multichampion and international dressage PRE Deseado CCV mum is our beautiful mare Embrujada Santa. Lilith is going to be tall... She is already reserved for a very lucky person.
Our first foal of 2018 has been born and she was a bit of a surprise ... Lluna didn't look ready to foal yet...But here she is! Daughter of Embrujo JL and Lluna SA.. We have named her Luminar SA.
This is a busy month and I am trying to keep the stallion fit and look after the mares at the same time... We also have the GBPRE breed show coming up and the PRE grading's in August.. So its a really busy time of year. Here I am with Abanico JL going off for a hack .
Our buckskin stallion Abanico JL has been away for a bit of train9ng with Emma Thomas at Esperanza dressage... He is going amazingly well under Emma's careful riding.. Abanico has competed in Spain and we hope to get him out in the UK later this year.. We will see how time goes with foaling and training some of youngsters.
I had so much fun riding Embrujo at Royal Windsor... It was my aim this year and we achieved it... so really happy :)
We are training for the National Championships next and will be getting out and about to a few more shows this season.. Please say hello if you see us :)
Its been a long cold winter and even now we are struggling with very low temperatures... But somehow the horses seem to know that spring is around the corner.. Here is our mare Lluna SA, she is due to foal next month to Embrujo JL and we are really excited to see what she has.
Embrujo JL is getting fitter now, after having a lazy time over the winter..We have been getting out to a few dressage shows... He is excellent, but I am rusty! Abanico JL is now in training with Emma Thomas of Esperanza dressage and will be home in a few months.
The weather has been horrible this winter...But you have to try and make the best of it... So when it snowed, we were lucky to have a visit from Jo Jackson Equine Photographer..She has taken some wonderful photos of Abanico JL and Embrujo JL in the snow... It had started to melt a little bit, but they still enjoyed running about in mud :)
So we are getting ready for 2018 and what will it bring us? We have 4 mares due to foal in the spring/ Summer and we are really looking forward to seeing all these foals. This photo is Duque and Principe... they are settling into UK life really well... Both these colts are for sale.. Principe is expected to be over 16hh at maturity.
We have had a new stallion arrive from Spain.. His name is Abanico JL.. He is Buckskin with one red gene and a sire of almost 60 offspring..
Abanico is really well trained and I am hoping he will be able to teach me how to ride some more advanced movements.. Abanico is available at stud for 2018... Take a look at his page and see more info on him.
Christmas is coming!! We have sold all of our foals this year and so when I was asked if I would consider having some youngsters in for training...I sad yes!
This month we have taken delivery of 4 really classy PRE Palomino youngsters. They have been sent to me for training and selling. We have 2 fillies and 2 colts, they are really nice and have super pedigree's. Soon we will take some photos and video of them...Please contact us if you are interested in them. Prices from £5000.
We have been so lucky to make our annual visit to SICAB again this year. We had a really enjoyable time and looked at lots of stallions...with potential husbands in mind for the mares in 2018.
SICAB is such a great show and well worth the trip.
We have a double Pearl colt at last!
This is Leviton JL.. he is one of our future stud stallions. Leviton is a double Pearl and he will always pass one of his Pearl genes to his offspring.. He has amazing bloodlines and fabulous conformation... Leviton will be sharing stud duties between Star Andalusians Stud and our
dear friend and fellow PRE Breeder Laura Thomson's Broomfield Andalusian Stud based in Scotland. We are really excited about him.
We have been really excited to find out that this sone of Embrujo JL is ranked in the top 10 young dressage horses in Spain. We will be following his progress.
His name is Horteleno JL and he is owned by Ana Echave Marco.
This is Mirach SA
He is growing into a superb colt and so much like his father Cortijero XXIII. We are really excited about his future and we hope to be able to get him out to some shows next year. He has a fantastic pedigree with Conde Munoz and Bocado lines.
We are often in Spain sourcing horses for people, riding horses and breeding horses. One of the stud farms that we regularly visit is the Stud Farm of Javier Larrosa Abellan. The family of this farm are so lovely and we had such a wonderful time when Paula came to stay in the summer. Here she is riding Embrujo JL.
This month I managed to get myself and Embrujo to the Iberian Performance Show.
I am very rusty, but plan to try and get out a bit more with the stallions in 2018.
We came 2nd and I was chuffed to bits.
Two of our mares have been confirmed in foal to the multichampion and international dressage stallion Deseado CCV.
Deseado was bred by Francisco Santiago Ruiz and he is pure Escalera, so this will be a new bloodline that we are introducing into the stud. His sire is the great Selecto VI.
So many things have happened in July.. This is Cera SA.. She was born just before the breed show and already growing well. Such a cheeky filly with an amazing temperament.
This gorgeous filly is a new future breeding mare. Her name is Kalia JL. She is a Double Pearl or Isabella as they are known in Spain. Her colour is amazing and we hope to be able to breed her with Cortijero XXIII and have some Pearl foals.
The stud is so lucky to have this filly.
We went to the GBPRE Show with Embrujo he was such a good boy and we were so pleased with him. He was 3rd in the Stallion section and 4th overall.
We are very excited that Lluna SA is in foal to Embrujo JL.
The foal should be amazing.. The colour possibilities are Double Pearl, Double Cream and Cream Pearl. Some of the foals could inherit one grey gene form Embrujo, but even if they do, they will always look like a double dilute.
She is here!
On the morning of Royal Windsor Horse Show, Embrujada Santa had a super chestnut filly born.
We have called her Alula SA!
She has the longest legs we have ever seen :)
This year we only have two mares in foal. Here they both are looking very fat and about to drop!
It wont be long now until we have many nights of no sleep!
Albiero SA has been out and about competing and doing very well. It is so nice to be able to see our horses getting out and competing.
Albiero is by Metano and out of Viernoles.
This is Perdido W .. This is a son of Cortijero XXIII and we have brought him. He is staying in Spain for a short while at the amazing Stud Farm Yeguada Bejar.
He is having some training and will be available for Sale
We are so happy that Alzir has such
a wonderful home and look forward to lots of updates on how he is doing :)
This month we have a new arrival at the Stud.. His name is Embrujo JL. We are so lucky to have been entrusted with this beautiful boy.
Hopefully we can get him out in the summer to some dressage. Thankyou to Liss Johnson for allowing me to use her super photos of Embrujo JL. Liss has her own Stud in Norway.
We had a quick visit to Spain this month to look at horses for people.. It was lovely to see this special Stallion who is branded Fermin Bohoroquez.. He is a son of the Functionality Champion of Spain.
This has been the most sad month for us at the Stud, we have had to say goodbye to our foundation stallion Lengueto V.. He has been the making of the Stud and without him coming into my life, I would never have started to breed Spanish Horses. He has been such an influence to so many people and the greatest ambassador to the Breed.
Lengueto V 1990-2017
Weaning time has arrived and all the foals have been weaned together in stables, this way they are so happy and the mums don't care at all... Everything went well so Alzir SA and Draco SA went to their new homes... I look forward to regular updates on how they are doing and hope to see them both out in the showring in the future.
Towards the end of November we made our annual pilgrimage to Seville
for SICAB...Every year I say the same thing....If you love the PRE then you need to make sure you go to SICAB.. So many Spanish horses and all under one roof... It is a great time to meet up with Stud owners and trainers of the PRE. This year the UK was represented in the dressage with Alice Hurley and Charlotte Crocker Westlake, they both looked amazing and did so well.
The season is changing and Autumn is here...
All our foals from Cortijero have grown well and are getting lovely winter coats..
We are so pleased with Cortijero's offspring. It is lovely to speak to all our happy
clients that have foals from him and our other stallions.
Keep in contact with us on our Facebook Page, click on the Facebook link on the right side of this page..
Here you can see daily updates of what is happening on the stud.
Cortijero XXIII our main stallion, had a wonderful time at Stallion AI/Tremlows and so now he is available for frozen semen.
The foals are growing up so fast and we are starting to prepare them for weaning.
They are all eating hard food now and plenty of hay :) Next month we will wean and then they will go to new homes..
The foals are growing up rapidly and we have already sold Draco and Alzir...I am looking forward to watching them grow into lovely riding horses with their new owners.
The photo on the left is Mirach SA. He is getting very tall and still has a spectacular movement.
This is Draco SA having a good gallop about in the field. He is such a cheeky boy.
He is going to grow into such a stunner, like all his brothers and sisters.
Below is Alzir, he is getting very tall and chunky, like his father...
We have brought our young fillies down to the farm for some handling and to be wormed and have their feet trimmed. They were good girls and its nice to see how they are growing. Lluna will be 3 this year and hopefully we can grade her next year and she can be put in foal to Cortijero XXIII.
I managed to get the camera out and take a few photos of them before they came and you can see how they are maturing :)
This month has been very busy, we started with the lovely Cassy Gatsby coming with Horse and Rider magazine to the yard to do an article in the magazine on plaiting. The boys were used as models and they all loved the attention!
Our foals have been born and I will update with more photos soon!
Above is a colt from Cortijero and Embrujada Santa. He is stunning and such a lovely colour.
Spring is getting closer now and the mares only have a month to go until foaling. They are getting fat!
I love this photo of Cortijero XXIII, he seems to find everything very funny.
The photo on the right is his daughter Opera, she is such a beautiful mare and is now in Norway with Liss Johnson.
I have been away in Spain to look at horses for people and had a lovely time. We saw our super new mare Gineta Santa. She is such an amazing moving mare and we are looking forward to seeing what she produces.
It is still very wet here and the boys are in most of the time. But not long now until the Spring arrives :)
It is cold and wet at this time of year and we spend time cleaning all the tack and handling any weanlings that are about to go to new homes.
Cortijero is going well and we are still searching for another stallion to join the team.
We are looking forward to going to Spain next month and catching some sunshine.
Anna Stewart sent this lovely picture of Hamal in his winter woollies. It is amazing how fluffy the foals get in the first winter.
Happy New Year to all our Family, friends
.New year and a new website.
We are working hard to start a new website, so its easier to keep everyone up to date with what's happening with the stud.
I have also been very busy going to and from Spain looking for horses for people. If you are looking for a PRE please get in contact and look at the Spanish sales website.
Our new horse transport company will be up and running later on this year and it will have the name
HTS Horse Transport Ltd... So watch out for us!
We have had the ANCCE approved vet Victoria South come and inscribe all our foals into the LGPRE stud book and now we will wait for the passports to arrive back, before all the colts are weaned and go to new homes
Happy New Year to all our family, friends and clients.
This year celebrates 20 years since we first started breeding with Lengueto V.
Here he is in 2014 and to the right he is pictured with his son Elegante. Lengueto has changed many peoples lives and really has been a one in a million horse of a lifetime. He has sired possibly the largest amount of Pure and Part bred Spanish horses in the UK.
